Overview
The Evergreen Project, led by Carbonext, is located in Apuí Municipality, Amazonas, Brazil, an area with a high deforestation rate. Covering 130,554.81 hectares of preserved forest area, the project aims to continue the success of previous REDD+ projects in the region, such as the Fortaleza Ituxi and Unitor projects. The main objective is to mitigate deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions by preventing the conversion of forested land into pastureland or other unsustainable uses. Through improved surveillance mechanisms and abandonment of planned deforestation activities, the project seeks to achieve climate, community, and biodiversity benefits.
Environmental impact
By preserving forested areas and preventing deforestation, the Evergreen REDD+ Project contributes to climate action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it helps protect biodiversity, maintain ecosystem services, and promote sustainable land management practices in the Amazon rainforest.
Certification
Certified by the Verra Registry and validated by RINA, the project adheres to the REDD+ mechanism, focusing on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. Carbon credits are generated based on the avoided carbon emissions resulting from the project's activities.
