Hechu Project

Overview

The Hechu Afforestation Project, situated in Hefei City and Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, China, is dedicated to transforming barren land into thriving forests to address climate change and promote local sustainable development. Led by Hefei Zhuoya Landscaping Engineering Co., Ltd., the project covers an expansive area of 30,057 hectares across the designated cities. Through direct planting efforts, the project aims to establish forests and achieve several key objectives, including carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, vegetation improvement, and soil and water conservation.

Environmental impact

The primary goal of the project is to sequester carbon dioxide and contribute to mitigating climate change. By establishing forests on previously barren land, the project enhances biodiversity conservation and increases the connectivity of forested areas, thereby promoting ecosystem resilience. Additionally, the project improves the quality and quantity of vegetation, leading to enhanced soil and water conservation in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Jianghuai hilly area. Through these efforts, the project significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, with a projected reduction of 9,383,744 CO2e over a 20-year period.
