Overview
The Kulera Landscape project, located in Malawi, is a REDD+ initiative aimed at averting unplanned mosaic deforestation and degradation. Covering over 169,000 hectares of biodiverse forest, the project adopts a pro-poor approach to community-based forest management, benefiting more than 45,000 households within a 10 km radius of the project areas.
Environmental impact
The project plays a crucial role in safeguarding biodiversity and protecting critical habitats within the targeted forest areas. By preventing deforestation and degradation, the project helps conserve over 600 species of flora and fauna, including iconic wildlife such as lions, elephants, and various antelope species. Additionally, the project supports the preservation of important bird populations and serves to maintain the ecological balance of the region.

The project holds additional certifications under the Climate, Community, Biodiversity Standards (CCB), including Climate Gold and Biodiversity Gold.
