Overview
The Nut Collectors project, located in Madre de Dios, Peru, aims to safeguard 490,000 hectares of precious rainforests from destruction. Developed by Bosques Amazónicos (BAM) in collaboration with the Federation of Brazil Nut Producers of Madre de Dios (FEPROCAMD), the project focuses on preserving the rich biodiversity of the region and mitigating climate change.
Environmental impact
By protecting the rainforests from deforestation and the impacts of infrastructure development such as the South Inter-Oceanic Highway, the project helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve vital carbon sinks. The preservation of these forests also supports the conservation of endangered species and fosters the sustainable management of terrestrial ecosystems.
Certification
Certified by the Verra Registry and validated by SCS Global Services, the project adheres to the rigorous standards of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. With a credit start date of December 27, 2009, and an end date of December 27, 2040, the project has been recognized for its positive impact on climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
