Resex Rio

Overview

The RESEX RIO PRETO-JACUNDÁ project, led by Biofílica Investimentos Ambientais S.A., is a collaborative effort with the residents of Resex Rio Preto-Jacundá, represented by local associations and organizations. Situated in the extractive reserve of the same name in the municipalities of Machadinho D’Oeste and Cujubim, northeastern Rondônia, Brazil, the project covers a territory of 95 thousand hectares. Established in 1996, the reserve has a rich history of advocating for the rights of rubber tappers and promoting sustainable land management practices. The project aims to enhance the sustainability of the extractive community by mitigating forest degradation and preventing unplanned and illegal deforestation, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These objectives are achieved through various activities funded by the sale of carbon credits generated from the project's efforts.

Environmental impact

The project contributes significantly to climate action by preventing deforestation and forest degradation, which helps preserve vital ecosystems and biodiversity. By reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, the project mitigates the impacts of climate change and promotes the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.

Certification

Certified by the Verra Registry and validated by Rainforest Alliance, Inc., the project adheres to the REDD+ mechanism, focusing on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The credits generated represent the avoided carbon emissions resulting from the project's activities.
