UNITOR Project

Overview

The UNITOR Project is situated in Lábrea, Amazonas State, Brazil, an area experiencing alarming rates of deforestation. Comprising a consortium of 15 neighboring properties spanning 99,035.20 hectares, the project aims to combat deforestation and promote forest conservation. By implementing forest carbon activities, the project mitigates greenhouse gas emissions and protects biodiversity in the region. Inspired by the successful Fortaleza Ituxi REDD Project, UNITOR REDD+ seeks to make a significant contribution to global climate action and sustainable land management.

Environmental impact

The project plays a crucial role in conserving terrestrial ecosystems, reducing deforestation, and halting biodiversity loss. By preserving vast forest areas, it prevents the release of significant carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Furthermore, the project fosters sustainable land management practices, contributing to the long-term health and resilience of the Amazon rainforest.

Certified by the Verra Registry and validated by RINA, the project adheres to the REDD+ mechanism, focusing on the reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The credits generated represent the avoided carbon emissions resulting from the project's activities.
