Overview
The Yacumama Forest is dedicated to the conservation and protection of tropical rainforests in Peru, particularly along the Rio Yarapa tributary. Covering an 11 square mile project area, the project aims to safeguard the habitat and biodiversity of this region, including endangered species such as the jaguar, tapir, pink dolphin, and various primate species. Established in 1992, the project has a long history of investing in indigenous traditions, biodiversity preservation, and habitat conservation.
Environmental impact
By preserving rainforests and biodiversity, the project contributes to climate action by sequestering carbon dioxide and mitigating the effects of deforestation. The protected area serves as a crucial carbon sink and helps combat biodiversity loss, thereby promoting sustainable land use practices and supporting the conservation of terrestrial ecosystems.
Certification
Certified by the Verra Registry and validated by CEPREI, the project adheres to the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) mechanism. With a credit start date of January 1, 2013, and an end date of December 31, 2013, the project has been recognized for its contribution to climate action and biodiversity conservation.
